Danae-Dionysios

Danae & Dionysios are choreographers and dancers from Greece, as well as artistic directors of Small Axe dance company, working together since 2015. Their choreographic journey counts commissions with Skånes Dansteater , Scapino Ballet Rotterdam and Staatstheater Braunschweig, while their company has produced 6 pieces. As dancers, they have worked with companies such as Akram Khan Company, ZfiinMalta Ensemble, Hellenic Dance Company, Unterwegstheater and more.

MoJo, is their latest teenage-friendly production which premiered in Athens, Greece in June 2025 and is beginning its international tour during season 2025-2026.

UNCIA, has received 7 awards (in competitions such as RIDCC, Hannover International Competition and more) and has toured to 11 countries, for more than 80 performances.

ATMA, has been touring in Europe, Asia and Central-Latin America counting more than 20 performances.

Free At Last, was created under the production house of Theater Rotterdam and premiered in 2019. Later on, Scapino Ballet Rotterdam requested it in order to be shared as a repertoire and toured to more than 30 theatres in The Netherlands.

Valley of the Hummingbirds, was commissioned by Staatstheater Braunschweig and premiered in February 2021, receiving beautiful reviews.

Fάrιsa has won 2 awards at Masdanza28 and has been performed more than 25 times and. Together with Napi, the girl and the bubble they were funded by the Greek Ministry of Culture to tour around Greek provinces in order to further enhance the connection of non-urban communities to contemporary dance.

In wind or dust, was commissioned by Skånes Dansteater and premiered in March 2024. Since then, it has been toured for two seasons around the region of Skåne.

Last season, funded once again from the Greek Ministry of Culture, they toured in Jamaica, Mexico and Tanzania, in order to share greek contemporary dance with less favoured communities outside of Europe.

At the same time, they teach at postgraduate and undergraduate programs such as Codarts, FRE3 Bodies, PERA School of Performing Arts and more, while giving workshops internationally. Their practice has been deeply influenced by Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and they aim for it to be inclusive to all ages and people of different movement backgrounds.
